Romeo Nightclub Issues Statement Amid Lioliou Exit

The Romeo nightclub in Athens has issued a statement addressing the early end of its collaboration with singer Katerina Lioliou, saying some people choose not to honor their commitments, though it did not name her directly.

The statement was posted on Monday, August 3, on Romeo's official Instagram account. Although Lioliou is not named, the post clearly refers to the professional relationship that ended on July 25.

Timing of the announcement

The statement came roughly two weeks after Lioliou's last performance at the venue. Her departure had already been made public through an official press release and on social media, and Romeo had also already announced its new artistic lineup for the coming season. From September, the club's stage will feature Christos Santikai and Evi Koulkouvini, while Lioliou is set to work with Sakis Rouvas this winter at the Enastron venue.

What the club says happened

According to Romeo, its agreement with the singer had been set to continue until January 2027. Instead, the collaboration ended earlier, in late July, a development the club said was not its own choice.

The venue said it had made every possible effort to meet the singer's requests and preserve the agreement between the two sides. It referred to a failure to honor commitments but did not give further details on what led to the early end of the partnership.

What the statement said

In its post, Romeo said its artistic program, which had been agreed and scheduled to run until January 2027, unfortunately ended prematurely at the end of July, adding that this was not a development of its own choosing.

The club said that from the very first moment it had made every possible effort to satisfy all of the artist's requests and to preserve the agreement they had reached. It added that when some people choose not to respect their commitments to a business, to the people who work for it every day, and to agreements already made, there is not much room left to react.

Romeo said it has operated and will continue to operate with consistency, professionalism and respect toward its partners, staff and audience. The club added that in early September it will turn the page with a new, dynamic artistic lineup that will be announced soon.

The statement thanked followers for their support and trust, saying the best is still ahead, and closed with a line stating that dreams should have no ceiling, but should not be built on the ruins of others, because in the end, the bill always comes due.
