Ramayana epic trailer drops with $480m budget ahead of Oct 2026 release

The debut trailer for Ramayana, an epic two-part Indian film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has been released on YouTube, featuring large-scale battle sequences, Hollywood-grade visual effects and key characters from the ancient epic.

The project carries an estimated budget of $480 million, placing it among the most expensive film productions ever made. The first part is scheduled for release in October 2026.

Jean Prosyanov, a producer, journalist and founder of the Russian film portal Kino-Teatr.Ru, told NSN he expected the film to succeed. He said Indian cinema performs well on foreign markets partly because of large diaspora audiences worldwide, and that US box office receipts for some Indian films already exceed their domestic figures.

Prosyanov compared Ramayana to Baahubali, calling it the next major entry in the trend toward ancient epic storytelling. He added that modern Indian cinema has shed its once-exaggerated style and now spans many strong genres.
