'Punto Nemo' Season 2 Arrives on Cuatro Monday

Cuatro will premiere the second season of 'Punto Nemo' this Monday, August 24, at 23:15, continuing the fiction series that first went to air on the free-to-air channel on August 3.

Since its debut, the show has averaged a 4.43% audience share on Cuatro.

'Punto Nemo' started strong, beating rival Telecinco's series Romi, which scored a 5.4% share, on its opening night. The first episode drew a 6.3% share and 479,000 viewers, and the second held a 5.7% share with 292,000 viewers.

Ratings decline over the season

The fiction lost momentum in the weeks that followed. By the finale of its first season, it had fallen to a 3.7% share and 160,000 viewers.

Cuatro is one of Spain's main free-to-air channels and belongs to Mediaset España, the broadcaster behind Telecinco. 'Punto Nemo' airs alongside a run on Amazon Prime Video, where the season had already been available to subscribers.

Plot of the second season

The closing episodes, directed by Álex Rodrigo and filmed in Galicia, Portugal and the Canary Islands, push the survival of the stranded oceanographic expedition to its limit. After the explosion of a Russian laboratory and the loss of Noah, the survivors trapped on the island must contend with dwindling resources, Soviet-era experiments, hybrid creatures and an alien virus capable of spreading worldwide.

Tension rises further with the arrival of two mysterious Russian siblings, played by Robert Plugaru and Anastasia Russo. Alek appears young and innocent, but his transformation sets off a tragedy, while his sister Dasha is a reserved young woman who conceals her true intentions. Amid betrayals, guilt and secrets from the past, the group fights to escape the island while some of its members push deeper into it to uncover what has been hidden there for decades.

An ending already seen on Prime Video

Viewers on Amazon Prime Video had already been able to watch this ending after its premiere on the streaming platform, and it was reviewed there in advance. The final run of episodes comes across as a production weighed down by the harsh conditions of the current streaming landscape, with a forced conclusion announced late, forcing the show's writers to tie up its storylines against the clock.

On screen, the closing episodes feel weak and rushed, leaving the impression of a well-intentioned effort diluted by a lack of resources, erratic plot turns and hurried decisions taken to bring the story to a close.
