Proctologist Danilo Munoz warns against excessive hygiene

Proctologist Danilo Munoz has warned that excessive hygiene prior to anal sex can cause serious health complications, according to a report published by news outlet Metropoles.

The medical specialist explained that striving for complete cleanliness often leads to mucosal irritation, severe pain, burning sensations, tissue cracks, and rectal bleeding.

Dr Munoz noted that tissue damage frequently occurs due to repeated washing, using excessive amounts of water, or aggressive physical touching of the area. He specifically cautioned against the regular use of harsh enemas, which can disrupt delicate body tissues.

Proctology is the medical field dedicated to diagnosing and treating disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The lining of the lower intestinal tract consists of delicate mucous membranes that produce protective fluids and maintain tissue health. Unlike external skin, this internal tissue is particularly susceptible to mechanical friction, frequent fluid flushing, and harsh cleansing practices.

Physiological Realities of Intestinal Health

Addressing widespread misconceptions regarding intimate hygiene, Dr Munoz emphasized that the human rectum does not need to be sterile for individuals to engage in anal sex safely. He stressed that the accidental presence of minor residual matter in the lower bowel is a natural component of normal intestinal physiology rather than a health issue.

Enemas are medical or hygiene procedures that introduce liquid into the rectum to evacuate the lower bowel. Health experts emphasize that frequent or overly aggressive enemas can strip away the bowel's natural mucus coating, disrupt microflora balances, and trigger chronic inflammation. Sustained irritation reduces tissue elasticity, making mucosal walls more prone to tears during intimate activity.

Broader Guidance on Sexual Practices

The warning regarding physical care follows previous advice offered by sexologist Courtney Boyer for individuals exploring specialized intimate activities. Boyer provided recommendations for people preparing to engage in BDSM practices, advising individuals to confirm that a particular activity genuinely causes arousal before participating in it.

Sexology is the scientific study of human sexuality, encompassing physiological, emotional, and behavioral aspects of relationships. Sexual health experts regularly advise partners to focus on mutual comfort, clear communication, and safe bodily practices rather than attempting to meet unrealistic physical standards.
