Nu metal singer Nathan James announced Friday that his father, Bill McGinley, was found dead at 72, two days after he disappeared on a Colorado bike trail.
The Louisville Police Department had reported McGinley was last seen Wednesday around 8:40am heading toward the Harper Lake/Coyote Run Open Space Trail. His body was found Thursday in the Coyote Run Open Space area, according to the coroner’s office, which did not disclose a cause or manner of death.
James, known for the song Lost Angeles, posted a video to Instagram addressing his fans directly. He said he had flown from California to Colorado to search for his father and learned that police had found him that afternoon. He described McGinley as his best friend and said the two spoke on the phone two to three times a day.
“He was my best friend. I love him. I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster ride like none other that I’ve ever been through,” James said in the video. He also thanked followers who shared his posts and helped spread awareness of his father’s disappearance.
James had first raised the alarm Wednesday, posting a photo with his father on Instagram and asking fans in the area to help locate him after McGinley “never returned from a normal bike ride this morning in Louisville Colorado.”
Police noted McGinley was last seen riding a white Specialized pedal bicycle and wearing a dark blue shirt, black shorts, white socks, and white shoes. James added in his post that his father had been riding on a 36th bike path near Davidson Mesa, Harper Lake, and roads leading back toward his home near Waneka Lake in Lafayette.
Closing his video, James urged followers to express their feelings to the people they care about. “Don’t forget to tell the people you love that you respect them and you wanna see them do well and you understand them and you’re there for them,” he said. “My dad has gone home upstairs and I love you, dad.”
