Nikos Kalogeropoulos Dies at 74, Greek Parties Pay Tribute

Greek political parties PASOK and SYRIZA paid tribute to actor Nikos Kalogeropoulos after he died at the age of 74. Both parties issued statements highlighting his career in cinema, theater, and television, as well as his engagement with politics and social issues.

The PASOK Culture Sector and its sector head, Nayia Grigorakou, described Kalogeropoulos as an actor with a distinguished career who stood out for his unique performance style. They noted that he was a restless and uncompromising spirit who also worked in directing, writing, poetry, and singing.

PASOK emphasized his belief that art without politics has no meaning. The party stated that this principle defined his entire career, distinguished his character, and left behind a significant body of work.

Career and political legacy

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance expressed sadness at the death of the actor, describing him as a versatile artist who rejected conventions and stereotypes. The party noted his contributions to Greek culture through roles in works such as Mathe Paidi Mou Grammata, Rebetiko, Loafing and Camouflage, and At the Camping, alongside later stage and film productions.

SYRIZA stated that Kalogeropoulos used sharp and subversive speech to criticize public figures and established ideas. The party also noted that he ran as a SYRIZA candidate in the Athens B constituency in 2004, and expressed condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
