Streaming service Netflix has secured international rights outside Australia to Caper Crew, a ten-part comedy heist series originally broadcast by public network ABC.
The agreement will see the live-action show premiere on Netflix in more than 190 countries worldwide, although a specific release date for international territories has not been announced.
Moving away from the dramatic tone typical of heist television, Caper Crew presents a lighthearted, family-focused story following two young people, Amelia and Kai Delaney. Their daily routine is upended when their grandmother Queenie, an experienced con artist, decides to teach them the art of swindling.

The lessons quickly turn into practical experience through a search for the Woodspring Nugget, a valuable relic. The quest pulls the trio into a series of chases while encountering former criminals and rival scammers.
Production and historical inspiration
The project draws loose inspiration from the historical exploits of the Kangaroo Gang, a famous group of Australian thieves who targeted European jewelry stores during the 1960s.
Australian outfit Easy Tiger Productions, the company behind series such as Colin from Accounts and Scrublands, produced the show. Yingna Lu served as producer, with Ian Collie, Rob Gibson, and Bernadette O'Mahony acting as executive producers.
Cast and streaming strategy
Veteran actress Tina Bursill, known for roles in Strife and Doctor Doctor, stars as the charismatic matriarch leading her grandchildren into organized crime. The ensemble cast also features Annie Maynard, Michael Theo, Ryan O'Kane, Guy Edmonds, Isabella Zhang, Caitlin Neimotko, and Luka Sero.
The acquisition follows an established pattern for Netflix, which frequently imports successful Australian productions after they prove popular with local audiences. The platform previously enjoyed international success with the Australian comedy series Fisk.
While Netflix has not set a release date on its global calendar, Caper Crew forms part of the platform's effort to expand its catalog of light comedy and family entertainment.
