Natalie Portman has opened up about her third pregnancy, four months after revealing her baby news. The 45-year-old Oscar-winning actress is expecting her first child with boyfriend Tanguy Destable, 46.
"I'm still vegan. I take lots of vitamins. I try and sleep as much as possible," she told Elle magazine.
"I try and do some kind of physical activity every day. I either swim or walk, and do gyrotonics. I also feel like being pregnant is almost like a cleanse because you don't drink and can't have caffeine. So I'm like, wow, I've never been cleaner in my life," she said.
Portman announced her third pregnancy in April, telling Harper's Bazaar, "I'm just very grateful. I know it's such a privilege and a miracle." She previously welcomed son Aleph, 15, and daughter Amalia, nine, with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, 49.
Life in Paris and healthcare differences
Portman relocated to Paris nearly a decade ago, and spoke with Elle about the differences between healthcare in the United States and France.
"I find the doctors to be amazing in both places, but they do have different landmarks for pregnancy and some of the tests they recommend are different," she said.
The Black Swan star explained, "The biggest difference for me is a socialized versus not-socialized approach to medicine. When you're in a socialized medicine country, they're trying to do the best for the most people, without making you pay for extra stuff. Whereas, in the US, they're like, 'Well, if you want this, we can add this.' You can see that it is also a business."
Divorce from Benjamin Millepied
Portman and Millepied married in 2012 and finalized their divorce in February 2024. The pair were married for 11 years before Portman filed for divorce in July 2023, following reports that Millepied had allegedly cheated with a woman 21 years his junior.
Millepied was spotted kissing a woman on October 15, 2024, in Paris, according to Us Weekly. A source told the outlet that Portman was not surprised by his swift return to the dating scene.
"Natalie isn't surprised that Benjamin has moved on because of how their relationship ended," the source said. "She thought he'd move on pretty quickly."
A heightened sense of smell
Elsewhere in her interview with Elle, Portman said her sense of smell has been stronger during her pregnancy.
"Scent becomes much more present for me when I'm pregnant each time, for better or worse. I was at a restaurant with a friend of mine the other night, and I was like, 'There's gas. There's a problem,'" she said.
"My sense is much more potent and it must be something to warn you about danger, because I am hyperaware of gas and smoke," she added.
Family background
Portman's father, Dr. Avner Hershlag, is a fertility specialist.
In her April profile with Harper's Bazaar, the actress said, "I grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant. I have so many people I love who've had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that. It's such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it's also not an easy thing."
