Streaming services Movistar Plus+, Filmin and Prime Video release three new feature films on Friday, August 21, featuring comedy, science fiction and drama. The new titles offer home viewers a variety of genres for weekend streaming.

Spanish family comedy set in Lapland

Director David Serrano's Lapönia debuts on Movistar Plus+ on August 21, bringing a holiday family dispute to northern Finland. Starring Natalia Verbeke, Julián López, Ángela Cervantes and Vebjørn Enger, the film adapts the popular stage play of the same name.

The story follows a Spanish family traveling to Finnish Lapland, where an apparently innocent discussion about Santa Claus uncovers hidden secrets, personal differences and old wounds. The narrative demonstrates that family gatherings can generate conflict regardless of the outside temperature.

Movistar Plus+ is a major Spanish subscription television platform operated by Telefónica. Director Serrano and lead actors Verbeke and López are prominent figures in Spanish entertainment, with Verbeke and López widely known for their work across comedy and television.

Chinese science fiction feature

Filmin adds Resurrection to its streaming service on August 21, presenting a narrative that blends science fiction, dreams and fantasy. Directed by Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan, the movie depicts a future world in which humanity has given up dreaming in exchange for extending human life.

Divided into five chapters, Resurrection relies on visual ambition to guide viewers through its futuristic setting. The production invites the audience to experience its atmosphere rather than search for immediate answers.

Filmin is an independent streaming service based in Spain that specializes in art-house, European and festival cinema. Director Bi Gan is an acclaimed auteur in contemporary Chinese film, known internationally for his distinctive visual style.

Inspirational drama based on a true story

Prime Video premieres Invencible: un niño fuera de serie on Friday, August 21, telling a story based on the real life of a young boy named Austin. Directed by Jon Gunn, the drama focuses on Austin, who lives with autism and a rare illness that causes extreme bone fragility.

The film avoids defining its main character solely through his medical condition, portraying Austin as a cheerful and imaginative child with a unique way of engaging with the world. Jacob Laval stars in the lead role alongside Zachary Levi and Meghann Fahy in a story designed to move viewers without unnecessary detours.

Prime Video is the video streaming service operated by Amazon. Lead cast members Levi and Fahy are established American actors, with Levi known for his roles in major feature films and television series, and Fahy recognized for her work in dramatic series.
