Moses Martin performed his first London gig on Wednesday night with his rock band People I've Met at The Hawley Arms pub in Camden.
The 20-year-old singer and model fronted the three-piece band from a stool with an acoustic guitar, playing to a tightly packed crowd inside the venue while bandmate Orlando Wiltshire played drums behind him.
Fans shared videos of the free-entry performance on social media, showing Martin singing just feet away from the audience in the same North London neighborhood where his father, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, began his career almost 30 years ago.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Martin praised the British music landscape. "London feels a lot more musical than a lot of other cities in some ways," he said. "And England in general is really receptive to new music and there is a culture of giving bands a chance and I think is really special."
Gratitude and Musical Heritage
Martin also addressed his background as the child of famous parents, describing himself as grateful for his family connections while establishing his own identity. "It’s definitely something to be reckoned with," Martin told Rolling Stone. "I think the ultimate thing is that I'm very grateful to be in the position I’m in and I have a musical DNA through my parents."
His parents, Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, and musician Chris Martin, 49, married in 2003 and purchased a large home in nearby Belsize Park shortly after. They combined adjoining properties to create a 33-room family home where they raised Martin and his older sister Apple, now 22, before announcing their conscious uncoupling in 2014 and finalizing their divorce in 2016.
Martin emphasized that his band is pursuing its own distinct artistic path. "My parents are incredible and I’m very grateful to be in the position I’m in," he said. "But what I’m trying to say is that yes, we acknowledge it and we’re grateful for it, but we’re doing something that is special and unique to us, and that we really care about."
He added that the band welcomes listeners regardless of how they discover the music. "And so ultimately, whatever gets people to listen to the music really, like wherever they come from, we welcome any fan," Martin said. "We really just love it and I particularly am grateful also to have parents who are supportive of this because they know what it’s like."
Martin revealed that he seeks creative feedback from both of his parents. "I really trust his opinion," Martin said of his father. "But it’s the same with my Mum too, she has great taste."
A Historic Camden Venue
The choice of The Hawley Arms links Martin to a landmark location in British music history. The pub served as the unofficial headquarters of the Camden music scene in the mid-2000s and became closely associated with Amy Winehouse, who was a regular customer and performer. The venue's official Instagram page shared video footage of the band's show.
Other prominent figures associated with the pub include Pete Doherty, Liam Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, while indie band Razorlight once performed on the building's roof.
The area holds additional significance for the family. Coldplay performed their first concert in the same North London borough in 1998 under their original name, Starfish, when Chris Martin was joined by bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion.
Band Origins and Festival Appearances
People I've Met features Martin alongside drummer Wiltshire and bassist Andrew Suster. The three musicians met during high school in Los Angeles and formed the group before moving to the East Coast for university in 2024.
Splitting their time between Providence and New York, the band focused on recording and live shows before touring as a supporting act for Australian indie duo Royel Otis. They released their debut single, Promise, through Interscope Records in December last year.
The band released a five-track debut EP titled Bunny in May. The record features the tracks Promise, For Hire, Loving One, Bastards and I Want It I Want It.
In his personal life, Martin is dating fellow Brown University student Campbell Fealy, 21, as revealed recently by the Daily Mail. Outside of music, he made his modeling debut last month in Burberry's Escape to the Countryside campaign alongside models Edie Campbell, Nora Attal and Sang Woo Kim.
People I've Met will make their next major appearance on Friday at Reading Festival, followed by a performance at Leeds Festival on Saturday. They are scheduled to perform on The Canopy stage.
The festival appearances place Martin among several children of famous musicians on the lineup. Gene Gallagher, the 25-year-old son of Liam Gallagher, will perform with his band Villanelle, while Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl's 20-year-old daughter Violet and David and Victoria Beckham's 21-year-old son Cruz Beckham will also perform with their respective acts.
