LinkedIn Launches AI Hiring Assistant for Recruiters

LinkedIn's new Hiring Assistant AI cuts recruiters' profile reviews by 80% and speeds invitation acceptance by 66%, LinkedIn says.

LinkedIn Launches AI Hiring Assistant for Recruiters

LinkedIn has launched Hiring Assistant, an artificial intelligence agent built to handle the recruiting process from the moment a job requisition is opened through the first contact with a candidate, the company said.

According to LinkedIn, the tool cuts by 80% the number of candidate profiles a recruiter has to review before making a decision, and speeds up candidates' acceptance of interview invitations by 66%.

Unlike tools that simply search profiles by keyword, Hiring Assistant integrates with hundreds of applicant tracking systems and draws on candidate data alongside LinkedIn's own database, the company said.

Recruiters can describe their requirements in plain language or upload an existing job description, and the assistant refines the qualification criteria before starting its search. A recruiter then calibrates the system by marking suitable and unsuitable candidates, and the assistant learns those preferences in real time.

80% Fewer Profiles to Review

Prashanti Padmanabhan, LinkedIn's vice president of solutions engineering, said clients using Hiring Assistant had seen the number of profiles recruiters must review before reaching a hiring decision fall by 80%.

Tata Consultancy Services, known as TCS, one of the companies that took part in the pilot, said the assistant takes over routine work, freeing recruiters to spend more time with business clients and candidates. TCS is one of India's largest information technology services and consulting firms. The company acknowledged, however, that it is only halfway through rolling out the tool, and said its recruiters still need time to adapt to the new process.

Limits of the Algorithm

The system has a notable limitation: it can only assess candidates whose information is accessible to it, either through a LinkedIn profile or connected services. LinkedIn said this means candidates with a minimal digital footprint, as well as those trying to switch career fields whose profiles do not yet reflect the change, risk being missed by the algorithm.

LinkedIn said its priority now is not building a smarter search algorithm but connecting fragmented corporate data, earning recruiters' trust, and becoming the layer through which hiring itself takes place.
