Secret wedding in Las Vegas

The pregnancy announcement comes a year after Russell and Haig married in secret in Las Vegas. The couple eloped to Nevada last summer for a kitsch wedding ceremony at a Sin City chapel.

Russell wore a chic 1980s-style white dress featuring big sleeves, paired with pointed kitten stiletto heels as she stood alongside Haig. The couple held hands at the altar in romantic pictures shared to her Instagram page, which appeared to be taken in a vintage film camera style.

The newlyweds stopped by a photo booth to capture black-and-white photos for memories before enjoying their first meal as a married couple at a local In-N-Out burger bar. Russell posted photos from the day alongside the caption, "Officially in my wife era."

Haig is an actor who currently stars as Ernst Ludwig in a West End production of the musical Cabaret in London.

Career from Blue Peter to Heart radio

Russell first rose to fame as the 36th presenter of the long-running BBC children's television show Blue Peter. She landed the position in 2013 after winning a BBC talent search competition on the CBBC series Blue Peter: You Decide, which gave viewers the power to vote for the new host.

More than 20,000 people applied for the coveted role. Ten promising hopefuls were interviewed by a panel including TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and Myleene Klass, with Russell's victory announced in front of a live studio audience in Leeds.

Following her win, Russell expressed her delight at securing the role. "I feel amazing. Thank you for voting for me so much," she said at the time. "It's the best job in the world - you get to do incredible things. Right now it feels a little strange. I'm quite shaky."

Russell currently presents the early breakfast show on Heart radio, broadcasting from 4.30am until 6am before Amanda Holden takes over the morning slot. She also continues her work as a television presenter on BBC One's magazine programme The One Show.
