The world of tourism has returned to normal and restrictions have practically disappeared, travel is back on the agenda and people of all ages are starting to plan their next trips abroad.
But when it comes to travel, we’re not all the same, and so are our preferences. And it is that these differences are even more accentuated according to the age group we refer to. From Holidu, the vacation rental search engine, they tell us which are the best cities in the world based on a range of factors important for each age segment, and discover which destinations best suit each generation. From baby boomers, nature lovers, through Generation X, gastronomy enthusiasts, to Generation Z, who are looking for adrenalin-packed activities, here’s a review not to be missed…
For baby boomers
The best city for this generation is Singapore. Considering it’s a bustling metropolis, the country’s capital of the same name was awarded a score of 79.51 out of 100 for its parks and green spaces, ideal for a generation that appreciates the outdoors. Another reason Singapore is a good fit for baby boomers is the number of Michelin restaurants it houses, 249 in total.
The second destination that best suits the baby boomer generation is another Asian city, this time in Japan: Kyoto. One of the best spaces the Japanese city offers us for this nature-loving generation is the Kyoto Botanical Garden, which is home to 12,000 species of trees, flowers and plants spread over 60 acres in the north of the city.
Switzerland’s capital, Bern, rounds out the top three. And it is that for a generation that likes to be outdoors, a visit to the so-called “city of fountains” is a great option. Bern’s Old Town is home to over 100 fountains that travelers can explore on foot. Each of them has its own story, some dainty, some gaudy and some just plain weird (like the ogre who eats kids), without a doubt a green city worth exploring.
for millennials
If we search for the favorite city of millennials, Paris is the one that takes first place. For a generation that regularly uses social networks to share their experiences, the French capital is an incredibly Instagrammable destination, making it the ideal vacation spot.
In second place is another popular European tourist destination, Barcelona. The Catalan capital also offers a great gastronomic variety, from the most traditional dishes to the most avant-garde cuisine. What sets Barcelona apart from its Spanish counterparts is its ability to be popular on Instagram, as the hashtag has been used in over 68 million Instagram posts to date.
for generation Z
The gold medal for Generation Z goes to Istanbul, Turkey. And why did it stand out so much for this demographic? Well, when you consider that three of the five members of Generation Z regularly use TikTok, this capital city has over 37.5 billion views on its video-sharing app, behind only Dubai, Barcelona, London and Paris. .
In second position is the large cosmopolitan metropolis of India, Bombay. The chaotic streets offer endless bargains and people watching and are a great option for a generation that wants to be adventurous but on a budget.
