Andy Warhol’s pop art print of the Queen and a portrait of Elizabeth I are on display to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Sotheby’s exhibition in London’s New Bond Street will feature paintings of seven fully crowned queens: Mary I, Mary II, Queen Anne, Queen Victoria, Mary Queen of Scots, Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II.

About 40 dazzling noble and aristocratic diadems dating back to the 1830s will also be on display, many of which have never been seen in public.

The exhibition at Sotheby’s in London’s New Bond Street will feature paintings of seven sun-crowned queens. The above portrait of Elizabeth I, painted to commemorate the Spanish Army’s failed invasion of England in 1588, is borrowed from the collection of the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey.

The portrait of Elizabeth I, painted to commemorate the failed invasion of England by the Spanish Army in 1588, is borrowed from the collection of the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey.

Another model, designed as a crown of diamond-encrusted leaves, dates back to 1830 and was created as a tribute to the classical designs of ancient Rome and inspired by the revival of the style during Napoleon’s reign.

Among the royally important historical manuscripts on display is the death sentence of the 7th Earl of Northumberland, signed by Elizabeth I, on loan from Alnwick Castle.

The 1572 document contains quotations and instructions for the execution of the 7th Earl after his role in the disastrous ‘Revolt of the North’.

The exhibition is part of the project The auction house Jubilee Arts Festival is a one-month program of events to celebrate the queen’s 70th anniversary.

Titled The Lightness of Being, it depicts the monarch with his eyes closed and is based on a 2004 portrait of the Levin Queen, marking 800 years of loyalty to the crown on the island of Jersey. It is expected to yield between £100,000 and £150,000.
