A white square work by minimalist artist Robert Ryman was auctioned at Ketterer in Germany. This was reported on the official website of the organization.
We do not know whether the author was inspired by Kazimir Malevich’s “Black Square”, but it is certain that he managed to create a lot of controversy around the canvas (you can see it here). By the way, its name is not minimalist at all – “General 52” x 52“. The picture is a blank covered with white enamel. There is literally nothing depicted on it.
They plan to sell it at auction for 1-1.5 million euros (110.5 – 165.8 million rubles) Note ed.). Robert created it in 1970; participated in a number of works written in the same style.
The auction house believes that this particular painting conveys the leitmotif of Ryman’s work: white, serial, square, analytical, with a perfectly calculated conceptuality.
