The future is near: Elon Musk announces humanoid robots and steering-less unmanned taxi

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has unveiled his vision for a “fun, exciting future” and “age of abundance” filled with autonomous cars that have no steering wheels, no parking spaces, and robots that will walk among ordinary people. Photos of future creations can be viewed on the company’s website. He said that all of these will be available within a few years, but it is not yet known whether Musk will be able to fulfill these promises.

The businessman’s future plans were announced at an event held in California. In addition to Robotaxi models, Robovan, an unmanned vehicle designed to transport large groups of people or objects, was also presented here.

The announced humanoid robots will be able to clean the house with a hand-held vacuum cleaner or mop, walk the dog, mow the lawn, water the plants, set the table, make observations and play with children. They will also help owners carry heavy bags and boxes, prepare and bring drinks, wipe off dust and much more.

The design of the new products was full of metallic, shiny sci-fi future aesthetics. Musk even referenced the classic sci-fi film Blade Runner, although he said he wanted his version to be more entertaining than the dystopian film.

Elon is famous for promising short-term goals that will take several years or more to achieve. Five years ago he predicted the robotaxi fleet would be ready in just a year but the billionaire admitted at the conference: “I tend to be a bit optimistic about the timing.”

Last month, it was learned that Elon Musk’s new Blindsight device could help even people blind from birth regain vision.
