The three live in a three-bedroom house and raise their three children by helping each other. apparently being in a triad “makes parenting a lot easier”.
It can be difficult to reconcile work and family life in the modern world and, as they say, it takes an entire village to raise a child.
However, a family seems to have suspected it.
A mother who has a girlfriend and a husband talked about the benefits of parenting as a couple.
Alexis Carideo, 39, met Tabatha Howard, 32, in 2016 on a dating app while she was married to project manager Brian, 47.
The married couple had an immediate connection and Brian even conceived a baby with her.
Six years later, they live together as a group in Oregon, United States, raising three children together.
Alexis, who is a stay-at-home mom, said: “Brian and I have never been in a monogamous relationship.
“I met Tabatha in 2016 on a dating site and introduced her to my husband. They too quickly agreed and we inadvertently became a triad.
“Tabatha is so lovely and wonderful. I would be surprised if someone who has known her for a long time didn’t fall in love with her.
“We are not a couple with a girl, we are a three-legged stool. The stool wouldn’t work without one of the legs.
In September 2018 they bought a three-bedroom house together.
The group moved into the property with Alexis and Brian’s two-year-old son Andrew.
Alexis became pregnant with her second child, Michelle, in November.
He said: ‘We have a king-size bed and Brian sleeps in the middle, but there’s also a queen-size bed in the guest bedroom.
“Coexistence works very well, both the work and the support allow me to be at home with the children.
“It’s amazing to have an extra pair of hands around the house.
“We don’t know how families with two parents fare.
“We basically have four relationships under one roof, as Brian and I are a couple.
“And each of us has an individual relationship with Tabatha, so we all have a relationship together.
“We all have a Google calendar so we can plan our time together and separately.
“We were able to enter two separate dates per month, as one of the parents can take care of the children.
“A triad date is very rare.”
In June 2020, Tabatha, who works in sales, became pregnant with her first daughter, Joyce, who is now 15 months old.
Alexis said: “It was a very planned addition to our family.
“After we gave birth to Michelle, we talked about how three babies would be perfect.
“Tabatha wanted to experience the rest of motherhood, taking the baby and everything else with her.
“So we decided she was going to have our third baby.
“They call me ‘mom’ and Tabatha ‘mom’.
“The girls are too young to understand, but I told Andrew there are different types of families and that’s okay.
“All of our children know that we love them with all our hearts and that’s all that matters.
“They can seek comfort and care from each of us.”
The group was accepted by their community as they form a strong family unit.
He said: ‘I don’t know of any other polyamorous families nearby, but people took that into account when they met us.
“There are probably people who think a threesome is about sex.
“But we’re just normal people doing normal things, we only have three people doing it together.
“It’s great to have two important people in my life and the fact that they love each other makes it even better.”
