New interesting spots appear on the restaurant map of the northern capital with enviable regularity, occupying the second place after the pace of development of the gastroindustry in Moscow.
Several years in a row we’ve only been to Birch and Cococo Bistro with enviable consistency. And if the first is still standing, surprising with a queue for reservation tables, then the last one has long since sunk into oblivion.
The junior shift turned out to be more democratic and non-standard in a good way.
Where to go not only for bread and wine, but also for emotions and impressions – read our selection.
Mr. Bo
Manezhny strip, 2

st. One of the most authentic Asian restaurants in St. Petersburg. A real gastronomic theater reigns here, and the magic that happens behind the scenes (i.e. in the kitchen) spreads to the hall in the form of the most unexpected flavor combinations: passion fruit oyster, meaty shrimp, meaty sweet potato date palm … Everything you can’t imagine on a plate, you’ve tried before knitted in a harmonious plate unlike anything else.
The restaurant also has a cozy terrace with bulb garlands in the courtyard.

FREAs
Voznesensky expectation, 6

Italian chef Antonio Freza’s St. Petersburg and its youngest project to date. Located on the ground floor of SO/St. Petersburg (another good reason to stay here) and literally immerses you in the atmosphere of 60s and 70s Italy. The classic interior prepares you for a measured, earthy dinner until you open the menu, where Mediterranean traditions contrast with original service and unexpected flavor combinations. Believe me, foie gras with quince jam and scallops with pickled strawberries are only a small part of the unique gastronomic experiments that the star chef has surprised. By the way, here’s a special set menu developed with the jewelery brand Yana until the end of July (our favorite is gluten-free pasta with morel). Better try!

theobromine
Bolshaya Zelenina street, 34

If Pan-Asian or Italian cuisine does not surprise you even in the most experimental variations, then welcome to the institution, where absolutely all dishes are prepared with the addition of chocolate! And this is not an oven. Theobroma is the first restaurant project of Olga Yarovikova, the founder of the Amazing Cacao chocolate brand. There are many savory items on the menu (snacks, soups, hot dishes) and looking at this traditional assortment, it’s hard to believe that cocoa beans were used in its preparation. The scallop crudo comes with the addition of white chocolate, the can of seafood tomatoes brings out the spicy taste of the cupuaçu (a close relative of cocoa), they even managed to harmoniously integrate the chocolate with mushrooms in the shrimp ravioli. The flavor combinations are not for the faint-hearted but definitely worth a try.

Mars Polo
Emb. Griboyedov Canal, 2D

Let’s calm your raging imagination a bit and return to more traditional forms. st. One of the best Italian restaurants in St. Petersburg, and by far the best view of the Griboedov Canal embankment, is the popular trattoria MarsoPolo. This is where SPIEF regulars dine and fashion influencers have breakfast. Why is he on our list? Because here you can make a very effective gastro ingredient. Multi-colored croissant rolls in the morning, and in the afternoon – a square meter of pizza with four different toppings (believe me, it will be enough for the hungriest company and a nice post on social networks).
