Lekuo Turns AMD B650 Chipset Into PB65MX3 Expansion Card

Chinese company Lekuo has released the PB65MX3, an expansion card built around AMD's B650 chipset, the same chipset used in motherboards for Ryzen processors, on its home market.

The card repurposes the chipset to deliver 12 ports: four SATA III connectors, four M.2 slots for SSDs, two USB-A 10Gb ports, one USB-C 10Gb port and one USB-C 20Gb port. All four M.2 slots support PCIe 4.0, though drives get four lanes each only when two SSDs are connected; connecting all four drops each to two lanes.

Price and power

The PB65MX3 connects via a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot and costs around $90. A small heatsink cools the chipset, and a six-pin connector can supply extra power, needed only when high-power USB devices are attached.
