An Indian airline worker had a heated mid-air argument with a passenger, during which she told him: “Shut up, I’m not your servant” after he made her colleagues cry with his demands.

In a video shared online, a female IndiGo crew member believed to be working on a flight from Istanbul to Delhi told the passenger to stop “pointing your finger and shouting at me, my crew is crying over you”.

It arose after a dispute over the airline’s meal options for the passenger.

The airline worker said, “Please try to understand, there is a trolley and the counted meals are lifted [on the plane]. We can only serve what your entry…”

The man interrupts her and says: “Why are you shouting?” and the crewman yelled back, “Because you’re yelling at us.”

The woman knelt down and said:

She added: “I’m sorry sir, but that’s not the way to talk to the crew. I listen to you peacefully with all respect, but you must also respect the crew.”

The man asks how he disrespected the crew and is told that he pointed the finger at them.

As the argument escalates, the passenger yells “shut up” at the woman, to which she replies: “Shut up, I’m sorry you can’t talk to me like that… I’m an employee, I’m not your servant.”

When the argument ended, the woman was seen pulling a face mask over her nose and mouth and turning around.

An IndiGo spokesperson told MailOnline: “We are aware of the incident that occurred on 16 December 2022 on flight 6E12 from Istanbul to Delhi.

“The issue relates to meals selected by certain passengers traveling on a codeshare connection.

“IndiGo understands the needs of its customers and it is our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with a courteous and hassle-free experience.

“We are investigating the incident and want to ensure customer comfort has always been our top priority. We strive to provide the best experience at all times.”

The airline added that the man asked for a sandwich and the crew told him they would check if it was available before he started screaming and one employee started crying, NTDV reported.

The clip received mixed reactions on Twitter, with one commenter saying: “I hope IndiGo doesn’t blame the crew here.” Some of the passengers are uncomfortable and it must have taken her a lot of effort to break down like that. She stood up for her comrades and deserves nothing but praise!’

Another said: “She’s absolutely right, she’s not his servant. Well done cabin crew!!!!!’

However, one commenter said: “Losing your temper in a customer facing role is a no-go. She should have called the flight attendant and if the passengers [sic] was still a nuisance, should have informed security before landing and put him on the no-fly list.”

Another wrote: “I work in hospitality, even if the guest behaves cheekily, the staff can’t touch the guest. In the end, she should have held back her feelings and handled the situation without yelling at the passenger, even though he was recalcitrant.”
