How many times have we seen a Bimani dress on social networks, paper magazines or in the closet of a friend, mother or sister? The answer is obviously hundreds and this has an explanation: the magic and ability that Laura Corsini has in designing. She is the spirit behind the Spanish brand that emphasized the importance of elegance in a subtle way. Very complicated mission as surely you have seen those wedding, Christmas or special event looks that fail because they wear more than their looks allow.
Every day, Bimani manages to fit into any wardrobe, regardless of age. Her success is so great that she has achieved 10 years of work and effort in the fashion industry. A date that is very complicated, especially due to the large number of signatures in Spain and internationally. By the way, to better understand the story and how Laura Corsini got to where she is today, you should watch the documentary available on the official Instagram account. Key element, in addition to the explosion of creativity of the entire Bimani team, to expand the brand to every part of the world.
To learn more about Bimani and Laura Corsini, we spoke with her. She told us all about her most personal origins and what projects she has, such as her latest party collection.
Bimani is synonymous with elegant and sophisticated style How was the brand’s beginnings until it reached the point where it is today?
BIMANI started ten years ago out of a personal need. In the summer of 2012 I decided to make a basic shirt blouse with our “magic” fabric, as we call it today, an easy-iron crepe georgette. That same year I went to Paris to study fashion and at the same time I started creating BIMANI, then BIOMBO 13.
What was Laura Corsini’s beginning in the fashion world?
Since I was little, I remember I loved to play with some dolls, for which I made clothes with wool, threads. I spent a lot of time with my grandmother Carmen, who has been and is an inspiration to me, guided me on this path and has been a reference for me when creating our designs. It’s funny how somehow fashion has always been present in my life even though I didn’t have a clear vocation when choosing my degree, that’s why I studied business but when I finished I thought I had given myself to fashion had to dedicate thanks to an internship I did in Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.
By the way, where does the name Bimani come from?
When I started the brand I decided to call it BIOMBO 13, it was a name that came naturally from the first sale I made in Comillas, Santander. Years later, due to a legal problem, we had to change the name and that is why it is called BIMANI today. The word BIMANI came up with my father and it is one of the best gifts he gave me.
This question is complicated, but which piece of clothing would you keep for all the new designs?
What a difficult choice! I think we have a very complete collection at the moment, knitted outfits, imitation leather designs, satin fabric, our crepe georgette, shoes… Depending on the occasion, I would choose different designs.
We have no doubt that sequins are the star this Christmas. Can you give us some advice on how to pair sequin Bimani garments for a normal day or a business dinner?
Our sequin collection is designed for events, weddings, Christmas dinners, even a night out or a more casual look. The TROUPER jacket with our WILSON blouse paired with straight faux leather pants and sneakers could be a look for a normal afternoon. If I had to choose an outfit for a corporate dinner, it would be our CHER dress.
Speaking of trends, which one is your favorite and which one don’t you want to try?
My favorite trend is the total block color, at BIMANI we have always chosen to show looks in one color, I think they gain momentum when it comes to dressing. The trend I don’t identify with is the parachute pants, but never say never!
Bimani is known for having the suits or dresses to be the best wedding guest. What three options do you recommend available in the brand for a 20, 40 or 60 year old woman?
Today we try to launch designs that meet the needs of different audiences, of different ages. I think the patterns of the designs kind of determine the type of person who would wear it. For a 20-year-old girl, I love our Castle dress, a short, cuter dress with shoulder pads. For a 40 year old woman, our Suzanne dress is perfect, midi cut, with a draped neckline and a flattering silhouette. I picture a 60-year-old woman in our ocean pants, kabuki top, and corolla jacket.
We have seen many women who are active in politics, such as Irene Montero or Isabel Díaz Ayuso, or great actresses such as Cayetana Guillén Cuervo. Which other women would you like to dress?
BIMANI is a brand with designs designed for all types of women, I don’t have a specific reference that I would like to wear, everyone who wears BIMANI when I see them on the street makes me very excited, but if I had to choose a person it would be Queen Letizia, I think it fits the current style of BIMANI.
You’ve probably been asked this many times, but do you consider yourself more of a fashion designer than a businesswoman today, or can you practice both professions at the same time?
Today I could say that I am both a business woman and a creative director, in the end BIMANI is Laura and Laura is BIMANI, so I am in the whole clothing design process as well as the general management of the company.
Social networks are essential to the advancement of any business and more fashionable, how do you use them to showcase new Bimani looks?
Every day I show my everyday looks to my community it’s funny how they really like to see them worn on a “normal” person and not a model I think it’s because they identify more with me feel and because they feel close to me somehow after all these years following me I still can’t believe it’s been ten years!
