Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, slowly progressive disease that affects neurons in the brain. It causes movement disorders, tremors and increased muscle tone, and also accompanies the development of mental disorders.
Despite his illness, the 66-year-old director continues to work on the final season of the mystical series Kingdom. The series chronicles the staff and patients of the neurosurgery department of Copenhagen Royal Hospital. The first season of “Kingdom” aired in 1994. “Kingdom: Exodus” will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August this year.
Lars von Trier is known for his work in films such as The House Jack Built, Melancholia, Dogville, Idiots, Nymphomaniac, Antichrist, and others.
Several high-profile scandals are also associated with the name Lars von Trier. For this reason, in 2011 the Danish director was suspended from participation in the Cannes Film Festival for seven years, during a press conference where he declared that he was “sympathetic” to Adolf Hitler. And in 2017, singer Björk accused the director of harassment: she said that von Trier harassed her on the set of Dancer in the Dark. The director denied the harassment allegations, but did not deny that relations with Björk were strained.
