On March 27, the 94th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre. Ariana DeBos was the proud owner of the coveted statuette for “Best Supporting Actress” in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story”. And so it went down in history. We tell you why.

Arina DeBos became the first Hispanic African-American queer person to officially win an Oscar. This is the only black actress in the world to be a clear representative of the LGBTQ+ community to win the main film award.

“In front of you is an open black queer person who finds his strength and his life in art. And I think we should definitely celebrate that. “So if anyone doubts you, I promise, there’s room for everyone in this world,” Ariana DeBos said during the Oscar ceremony.
