Jayanta Jenkins leaves her position as head of content marketing for Disney-branded television and Nat Geo content

Jayanta Jenkins resigns after a year and a half as director of television marketing and content for the Disney brand at National Geographic. Her last day is June 10th.

Jenkins joined Disney in December 2020 as Head of Content Marketing at Disney Branded Television and National Geographic, overseeing all of the content marketing and advertising created by both departments. His appointment was revealed in a Peter Rice statement on the restructuring of Disney General Entertainment in November 2020, in which he saw the portfolio’s marketing operations split into three areas overseen by Jenkins; Shannon Ryan, president of content marketing, Hulu and general entertainment; and FX Marketing President Stephanie Gibbons. Jenkins told I Davis, president of Disney brand television, that he took over from Gary Marsh last year, and Courtney Monroe, president of National Geographic Content. Davis and Monroe announced this morning that Jenkins would be leaving with an internal reminder. It is likely that a replacement will be appointed soon.

In his role, Jenkins led a centralized team responsible for all of the creative marketing, media planning, advertising, talent relations, events, and reward strategies promoted by content created by National Geographic Content and television with the Disney brand. She oversaw the development and implementation of awareness campaigns, brand programming and franchising, worked closely with the Disney Media & Entertainment distribution network marketing team and the Disney + marketing team.

“When I joined you 18 months ago, I had a chance to try something new. “I enjoyed my experience here and it has given me great personal and professional growth,” Jenkins said in an email from the company. “But I’ve always been the one who spent my life awkward, and this led me to understand that I wanted to focus on what I love most, my true passion, which is working on creativity.”

Prior to joining Disney, Jenkins was Global Creative Director at Cheil Worldwide, Samsung’s in-house agency, where he led global initiatives for Samsung Mobile. He was also Twitter’s first global creative director and has also held creative leadership roles at Apple Beats by Dre, Chiat / Day, Wieden + Kennedy and The Martin Agency.

I am writing to you today to share the news.

When I joined you 18 months ago, I had the opportunity to try something new. I enjoyed my experience here and it has given me great personal and professional growth. But I have always been the one who has led my life with the knowledge of myself, and this has led me to understand that I want to focus on what I love most, my true passion, which is working on creativity. So I wanted to share with you that I am leaving Disney next Friday June 10th. My plan is to go back to basics after spending more time with my son this summer.

After thinking about it, I realize that my entire career has been filled with trying new things. Getting out of your comfort zone to grow is all you need. The quote reads: “Take the chance … or miss your chance”. And the opportunity this job gave me is exactly what I did.

I am proud of the important, award-winning and culturally important work we have done together, and it has been a pleasure and a privilege for me to work with each of you. I have learned a lot and will always be grateful for this opportunity. My successor will inherit an extraordinary team.
