Microwaves have been proven to be a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria. Spanish scientists came to this conclusion after analyzing the microbial composition of 30 microwave ovens. Experts found as many as 101 different types of bacteria in them.

The study was published in the journal Frontiers in Microbiology. Microwaves were taken from private homes, offices, cafes and laboratories. Most of the bacteria found in them belonged to the groups Bacillus, Micrococcus and Staphylococcus.
Home microwaves contain foodborne pathogenic bacteria such as Klebsiella, Enterobacter, and Lactococcus, which can pose a health hazard.
The microbial composition of laboratory ovens varies greatly. They found bacteria resistant to radiation and high temperatures. Scientists reminded that microwave ovens should be cleaned regularly. This will help reduce the risk of bacterial contamination of food.
