Zendaya Wears Archival Thierry Mugler Robot Costume to Dune 2 Premiere

For several years now, Zendaya Coleman has had a delightful tendency to wow audiences with each of her red carpet appearances. While she puts them together to promote the film Dune 2 (which will be released in French cinemas on 28 February 2024), left its mark especially during the world premiere in London on 15 February 2024. Wearing an outfit you just showed off during fashion week? Too easy for her. With the help of her stylist Law Roach (who prefers to be called a ” image architect “), she instead decided to wear the famous women’s costume from Thierry Mugler’s autumn-winter 1995-1996 collection. This marked the house’s twentieth anniversary with a fashion show at the Cirque d’hiver.

The great bodybuilder designer who died on January 23, 2022 had the habit of augmenting bodies with growths sometimes borrowed from fauna, sometimes from flora, but sometimes also from machines in a transhumanist way, as illustrated by this haute couture robot costume which may recall the world of hyper-realistic cyborg pin-ups by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. Manfred Thierry Mugler, who grew up reading many superhero comics, also fed his science fiction imagination, making him an obvious designer choice to extend the aesthetic of Dune 2.

And that’s what makes Zendaya Coleman’s appearance even more impressive: not only because of the technical complexity of this articulated steel corset, but also because she managed to slip it on, and finally because ‘she manages to look so futuristic in 2024 in an outfit that dates back to 1995. Note that she still accessorized it with a Bulgari necklace because she hasn’t forgotten her status as the jewelry house’s muse. Business is business.
