EXCLUSIVE: JK Rowling collected a salary of £8.25 million ($10.5 million) after the show. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has proven to be a crowd favorite post-pandemic.
HPTP Holdings, the parent company of Rowling’s theater interests, paid out the dividend as a production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Doors reopen to the public.
The company said ticket sales had returned to pre-pandemic levels in London, where the Sonia Friedman Productions and Playground Entertainment co-production is playing at the Palace Theatre.
The Broadway version of the show, which is performed at the Lyric Theatre, has proved profitable, according to HPTP Holding’s earnings filings with UK Companies House.
HPTP Holdings reported sales of £14m in the 12 months to the end of March 2023, up 300% from £3.5m a year earlier. The sales are likely to be a record for Rowling’s theater companies.
Around £5.3m of the company’s sales were generated in Europe, with a further £4.6m and £4.1m coming from the US and the rest of the world respectively.
HPTP Holdings’ pre-tax profit was £5.7m this year, compared with £1.1m in the year to March 2022.
The strong financial performance demonstrates the company’s resilience Harry Potter brand, despite Rowling sparking controversy over her views on transgender rights.

The sole director of HPTP Holdings is Neil Blair, Rowling’s old agent. The Blair Partnership declined to comment beyond HPTP Holdings’ accounts.
