Lionsgate announced today that it has completed its acquisition of global entertainment platform eOne from Hasbro.
The deal, announced in August, adds 6,500 film and television titles to Lionsgate’s extensive library. diversify and strengthen its television operations with and without script; expand its portfolio of brands and franchises; and expanding its presence in Canada and the United Kingdom.
The transaction requires $375 million in cash and the assumption of certain production financing loans.
EOne produces hit ABC franchise The beginneraward-winning Showtime series yellow jackets, and the long-running unscripted Discovery series Bald and scared.
The deal also includes film development rights for Hasbro monopoly Brand.
“The acquisition of eOne caps off a busy year as we continued to execute on our strategy to strengthen our studio operations as we prepare to separate Lionsgate and STARZ into pure, standalone companies,” said Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, said. “While conducting our integration planning, our analysis confirmed our belief that eOne will be a valuable and very positive addition to our company. We are excited to welcome eOne’s talented group of employees to our Lionsgate family.”
With that deal finalized, Lionsgate confirmed last week that it will split studio operations and Starz in the first quarter. A SPAC called Screaming Eagle will acquire the studio, which will become a separate publicly traded company. The company, which is also expanding its 3 Arts partnership with a larger majority stake, is on a roll and has seen an 88% share increase this year.
Jefferies & Co., Sheppard Mullin and Denton’s Canada LLP advised Lionsgate on the eOne transaction.
