What if this year, for Christmas, you offered some of your time? While on the one hand holidays represent a particularly difficult time for precarious or isolated people, on the other they are also the ideal time to make yourself useful. Proof with this (non-exhaustive) list of volunteer missions to carry out throughout France.
Spend time with an isolated older person
Do you live in Lyon or its region? Like every winter, the branch of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region of the Little Brothers of the Pauvres offers one-off volunteer missions. “The December holidays are an opportunity to offer isolated elderly people a priceless gift: moments of exchange, sharing and conviviality! » we can read on the website tousbenevoles.org.

Manage my choices
To break the isolation of the elderly, the association is looking for volunteers to:
- visit a person on December 24th or 25th, offer them the association’s Christmas package and spend a pleasant time with them. 500 visits are planned in Lyon and its surroundings.
- accompany guests to Christmas lunch and then accompany them home.
Wrap gifts to raise funds
The French Red Cross will be present from Saturday 16 December to Sunday 24 December at the Qwartz Shopping Center in Bois-Colombes (92) and is looking for volunteers to pack customers’ purchases. All funds raised by the association finance “social activities (food and hygiene aid, looting, cultural outings, economic aid, etc.), training (purchase of mannequins for training the general public) and first aid (purchase of emergency equipment, consumables, etc.) .)”.
The association is looking for volunteers in the following time slots:
- Saturday 16/12 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm
- Saturday 16/12 from 4.30pm to 8.00pm
- Tuesday 19/12 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm
- Wednesday 20/12 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm
In the Somme, the Heart restaurants are also looking for people to help out in a toy shop in GLIS. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 01/11 to 21/12
for 3 hour time slots. Contacts and information on the Restos du Coeur website.
Participate in the organization of a New Year’s Eve celebration in favor of the most disadvantaged
The Salvation Army needs help with the New Year’s Eve party: help decorate the dining room, serve the table (about 100 people) or provide entertainment. Registrations are made via the association’s website and the mission will take place in Paris, on December 31st, from 6pm to 12.30am.
And if you haven’t found the initiative that’s right for you, the solidarity Christmas card, created by the Entourage association, lists many other events to participate in close to home, both as a volunteer and to reconnect during the holidays.
