3 reasons why we gain weight in winter

I agree, with the first cold weather comes the desire to eat everything you see on the road. Even if you eat right all spring and summer trying to get in better shape, none of that matters in the fall and winter. We are talking about three popular reasons why you are so hungry during the cold season.

A still from the movie “Bridget Jones’s Diary”

It’s all about physiology. Over millions of years of evolution, humans have developed a defense mechanism: During the cold season, food becomes scarce, so a person needs to save energy. To protect yourself from frost, you need to create a reliable barrier from the subcutaneous fat layer.

Lack of sunlight. We’re sure you haven’t even considered that the sun also affects your metabolic rate. The fact is that fat cells are sensitive to sunlight and under its influence lipids are consumed faster. Since daylight hours are much shorter in winter than in summer, fat accumulates in the body.

Decreased physical activity. We doubt you’ll want to walk in winter as well as in summer. And if active walking in the warm season at least somehow compensates for the excess calories in the diet, then you must admit that in winter you are unlikely to be able to follow the same plan.
