Canal+ drives sales growth Vivendi
Canal+ owner Vivendi today reported slightly improved first-quarter sales of 2.3 billion euros ($2.5 billion), mainly due to the growth of the Canal+ group. The France-based conglomerate grew its sales by 3.3%, with Canal+ bringing in €32 million in the quarter while Studiocanal grew by 13.6%. “This development must be seen in light of the high comparable base of the first quarter of 2022 in conjunction with the recovery in activity from the Covid pandemic,” Vivendi said in a statement. The company attributed the growth of Canal+ to the launch of several films, as well as the agreement with Apple TV+, for which the SVoD is available to all Canal+ subscribers in France and other French-speaking territories. The results mark an improvement after Vivendi posted an annual loss of $1.07 billion in March related to the deconsolidation of its stake in Telecom Italia.
