Bono will be one of First Lady Jill Biden’s guests at today’s State of the Union address, joining a list that also includes US Ambassador to Ukraine Oksana Markarova and Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The White House cited Bono’s work as an activist fighting HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty. Bono helped build bipartisan support for the President’s AIDS Response Contingency Plan, which President George W. Bush announced during his State of the Union address 20 years ago.
Also on the guest list: Maurice and Kandice Barron, whose daughter survived a rare form of childhood cancer; Lynette Bonar, a registered member of the Navajo Nation who is an executive at Tuba City Health Care Corp. is; Deanna Branch, who worked to eliminate lead exposure after her son Aidan was poisoned; Kristin Christensen and Avarie Kollmar, a caregiver for her husband, who medically retired from the Navy with combat injuries; and Ruth Cohen, a volunteer at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum who is an Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp survivor. She is a guest of Doug Emhoff, the second lord.
