5 police officers were fired and charged with second-degree manslaughter on 17 January. Video of the incident was released on January 28, sparking nationwide protests. Several more shots followed by local firefighters and paramedics.

The funeral was a celebration of Tyre’s life, not its demise. Prominent activists and politicians were there to support the Tire family during the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church event. The sermon was delivered by rev. Al Sharpton. vice president Kamala HarrisSeen here, attended with the White House Director of the Office of Public Engagement, Keisha Lance panties.

The families of other black men and women killed by police stood in grim solidarity on the rainy Memphis day. breonna taylor mother Tamika Palmer AND filonise floydthe younger brother of George Floydalso participated.

People were emotional at the funeral, which took place on a cold day. Many people came out to pay their respects, even as Memphis residents faced devastating ice storms and road closures.
