Bring out the champagne (no). If you didn’t already know, when you welcome a child into the house for the first time, or even for the following ones, the CAF (Cassa Assegni Familiari) can disburse a substantial sum, subject to income.
The birth bonus, what is it?
The birth grant is part of the childcare servicethe Paje for intimates, and also includes the basic allowance, the shared allowance for the education of children (PreParE), the integration for the free choice of child care (Cmg) but also the adoption bonus.
Anyone expecting a child and residing in France may be eligible, if their income does not exceed a certain ceilingand that the general conditions for benefiting from family allowances are met.
Furthermore, as indicated on the Caf website, in order to benefit from this bonus it is necessary (or your doctor) you declared your pregnancy within the first 14 weeks at the Caf and at the Primary Health Insurance Fund.
If all this is done (and you are registered with the CAF), the calculation and disbursement of the birth bonus are automatic, you have no further steps to take.
Paid during the 7th month of pregnancy, it helps reduce the cost of expenses related to the birth or adoption of a child, such as childcare equipment, a possible move if the current accommodation is too small, or contributes to cost of buying a bigger car to be able to transport the child.
It doesn’t matter how you use the amount transmitted to you.

Increase the childbirth allowance
In 2022 the amount of the birth bonus is 965.34 euros. The government having decided to give a boost to households to keep pace with inflation and the rise in consumer prices, is given a 4% increase, thus bringing it to €1,003.95.
This award is doubled for parents expecting twins, for a total of €2,007.90.
This significant revaluation is now retroactive to July 1, 2022.
