Kouvaras Fire Linked to DEDDIE Power Line Sparks

Investigators say sparks from loose DEDDIE low-voltage cables ignited dry grass, sparking the Kouvaras, Attica fire on August 10.

Kouvaras Fire Linked to DEDDIE Power Line Sparks

Fire investigators believe sparks from low-voltage cables belonging to power grid operator DEDDIE caused the fire that broke out on the morning of August 10 in Kouvaras, Attica.

According to competent sources, three local residents told investigators they saw sparks coming from cables on a low-voltage pole near an abandoned poultry farm, which was ultimately destroyed by the fire. The sparks ignited dry grass at the base of the pole, and the blaze quickly grew due to strong winds.

Arson unit findings

A team from the Arson Crimes Response Directorate found visible evidence on the pole confirming a fire had occurred there, attributed to the cables swinging in the strong wind. The cables were not twisted together but hung loose, allowing them to touch during the wind.

The area has been sealed off and is under guard. Authorities plan to seize the pole and other materials and have an expert examine the site to complete the case file for the prosecutor.
