Customs officers at Koltsovo Airport in Yekaterinburg detained a passenger arriving from Istanbul with an undeclared commercial shipment of men's clothing.
Inspectors discovered more than 100 men's shirts and 50 ties inside the traveler's baggage. The passenger did not have a customs declaration for the items.
According to the press service of the Ural Customs Directorate, the man explained that he works as an individual entrepreneur and was bringing the items to sell on electronic platforms. He estimated the total value of the apparel at approximately 120,000 to 130,000 rubles.
Based on the quantity and assortment of the goods, as well as the statements made by the passenger, inspectors concluded that the shirts and ties represented a commercial consignment that required mandatory declaration.
Customs authorities opened an administrative offense case against the man. The statutory penalty provides for a fine of up to double the total value of the undeclared goods, with the precise amount to be determined by a court.
Customs Declaration Requirements and Import Rules
Under Russian customs regulations, individuals entering the country are permitted to bring personal belongings duty free within established weight and monetary limits. Commercial goods intended for resale or business activities must be declared to customs upon arrival and are subject to mandatory import duties and clearance paperwork.
Koltsovo Airport serves Yekaterinburg, the fourth largest city in Russia and the administrative center of the Sverdlovsk Region and the Ural Federal District. The airport acts as a central hub for international trade routes linking Russia with Turkey, where Istanbul operates as a major global wholesale clothing market for regional merchants.

Earlier Undeclared Goods Interceptions at Moscow Airports
The detention at Koltsovo Airport comes after a separate high-value interception at another Russian airport. Previously, a Russian woman arriving from the United Arab Emirates attracted the attention of customs inspectors at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport.
During that inspection, officers discovered 38 undeclared luxury items inside her suitcase, with a total estimated value of 9.3 million rubles. Domodedovo Airport is one of the primary international travel gateways serving the Moscow metropolitan region.
