Kelly Osbourne 'barely speaking' to mother Sharon a year on

Kelly Osbourne and mother Sharon are said to be barely speaking, with insiders blaming politics and Kelly's fresh start in the UK.

Kelly Osbourne appeared without her mother Sharon Osbourne at the launch of a new Manchester restaurant this week, amid claims the pair are now barely speaking, more than a year after the death of Ozzy Osbourne.

Kelly, 41, joined a group of Coronation Street actors and local DJs to publicise Sister Moon, a new rooftop restaurant on Manchester's Deansgate, rather than the Hollywood and rock stars she usually mixes with.

Sharon's absence was notable. Mother and daughter have been inseparable since Ozzy Osbourne's death in July 2025, leaning on each other through their grief, and in February this year they clutched onto one another at the Brit Awards in Manchester as they accepted a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for the Black Sabbath frontman.

But sources close to the family say Kelly and Sharon are today barely speaking, and that Kelly's once close bond with her older brother Jack is also strained.

Twenty-one years after At Home with the Osbournes, the reality show that made the family global stars, came to an end, Kelly is said to be actively distancing herself from the Osbourne brand and rebuilding her life and career in the UK.

Political divide with Sharon

According to a source, Kelly's frequent solo appearances are a way of putting distance between herself and her mother's increasingly outspoken political views. Friends describe Kelly as "a big Leftie" who backs LGBT causes and liberal ideals, while Sharon, 73, is said to be a "Trump fanatic" who leans heavily to the Right and is understood to have attended the Unite The Kingdom march in London this year.

"They've been through a lot, and Ozzy's passing really united the family publicly, but they've also become very separate and very different people," the source said. "Kelly sees herself as very liberal, woke and modern, the rest of her family are more conservative leaning, and they've clashed a lot, she couldn't be more different to her mum and brother right now."

The source added: "Kelly has decided to go it alone and decided to make her move to the UK and will raise her son here when most of her family including her mum are spending much of their time in LA. They're worlds apart just now in every possible sense."

Attending the National Television Awards in London this week, again without her family, Kelly admitted the political gulf had become uncomfortable. "I don't agree with my mum. That's one thing that I can say I don't agree with her on," she said. "It's hard because I love my mum, but I also have to understand that she's entitled to her own opinions as well. And it's really hard when it comes to politics and things like that, but that's not for me."

A new home in Buckinghamshire

Kelly is believed to have bought her own rural property in Buckinghamshire, where she plans to raise her three-year-old son, Sidney. Sharon continues to split her time between the family's Los Angeles mansion and Welders House, the family's Buckinghamshire estate where Ozzy is buried.

A difficult 15 months

Kelly has said "a part of me died, too" when her father, who had Parkinson's disease, died after a cardiac arrest. Her grief brought dramatic weight loss and online trolling, including unfounded claims she was using the weight-loss drug Ozempic.

In March this year she split from her fiance, Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson, Sidney's father. Friends say the split has been "difficult and dramatic", something Kelly hinted at in angry Instagram posts last month. "Wake up and take responsibility," she wrote. "I'm done. I want to be happy and I have a beautiful son to raise." In another post she wrote: "Also while I'm at it can I have my dogs back and all my possessions. Oh yeah and maybe some child support?"

A friend said Sharon had been a huge support after the split: "Kelly's split was far from easy. It still isn't, Sid isn't the easiest person to deal with and there is a lot of animosity. Sharon is the most loyal woman you could have on your side and she has always been there for her."

Even so, mother and daughter are now said to be no longer close, leaving Kelly "facing being a single mother going it alone, not just without a partner but without her mum being around either." Kelly has made clear she is not seeking a share of the £200 million estate Sharon took control of when Ozzy died.

Building a career of her own

Kelly has become a regular on the UK showbiz circuit, attending events for Vivienne Westwood and Louis Vuitton, a London art gallery opening, Royal Ascot with designer Karen Millen, a cocktail party for Rebecca Vallance and a Fortnum & Mason launch for a new cookery range.

She has signed with management agency Keye Talent, whose clients also include Freddie Brazier, son of the late Jade Goody, and reality star Lottie Tomlinson, sister of One Direction's Louis Tomlinson. Brands are believed to pay in the region of £10,000 per outing for her appearances.

"Turning up to events is big business, and an easy way to make fast cash to set up her new life," a source said. "Kelly needs the money, she is going it alone now and doesn't want to rely on family money. She's got a huge profile and is connected to one of the most famous families in the world, but just at the moment she's on the outside and is trying to fend for herself. It's a growing rift, and the divide is more obvious with every week that passes. Nobody knows what the future holds."

Life on the farm

Friends say Kelly is enjoying her new country life away from the spotlight. "It's a very, very different life to the one she lived as a child and teenager," one source said. "She grew up in a mansion in Beverly Hills and could have anything she wanted. But she's changed, she enjoys the more simple things in life and is taking great pride in earning her own money. She has taken control which is great but at the same time she has distanced herself from Sharon at a time when they probably need one another the most."
