Neurologist Kelliann Niotis said that worsening hearing and vision negatively affects brain function and can trigger dementia, speaking in an interview with Business Insider.
Niotis noted that the brain ages faster after a person loses hearing or vision. According to Niotis, this happens because brain areas responsible for learning and processing new information begin receiving significantly less stimulation.

Impact of Social Isolation
Niotis named another explanation, stating that losing the ability to see or hear well causes people to become more withdrawn and socially isolated. As the neurologist explained, a lack of communication is harmful to the brain by itself, and it also leads to other bad habits, such as a lack of physical activity.
Previously, neurologist Olga Chernikova named two everyday dementia triggers. According to Chernikova, chronic sleep deprivation and a sedentary lifestyle significantly increase the risk of cognitive impairment in old age.
