Fragrance brand Kayali has launched Freedom Musk Matcha | 45 Eau de Parfum, a new scent inspired by the rise of iced matcha lattes in specialty coffee shops.
Created by brand founder Mona Kattan and perfumer Alexis Grugeon, the fragrance reflects the recent evolution of matcha from a traditional hot beverage into a cold summer staple. The green tea ingredient has shifted from beverage menus into beauty products, bringing its earthy and vegetal notes to fine fragrance.

Mona Kattan and Alexis Grugeon spent 45 formulation rounds refining the scent to achieve a balance between the raw character of matcha and a creamy finish. The number 45 is engraved directly onto each bottle to mark the development process.
Fragrance Notes and Olfactory Profile
The perfume opens with top notes of matcha, bergamot, yerba mate, and green apple. On the skin, the initial crispness transitions into a gourmand heart featuring oat milk, caramelised praline, coffee, and vanilla, recreating the aroma of an iced latte.

As the fragrance settles, a base of sandalwood, sweet musk, amber, patchouli, and vetiver emerges. This combination produces a warm, enveloping layer that melts into the skin without feeling heavy.
Matcha, a finely ground green tea powder originally central to traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, has become a global coffee shop trend. Kayali, founded by beauty entrepreneur Mona Kattan, is known for creating fragrances designed to be worn individually or combined through perfume layering.

Wearability and Bottle Formats
The evolution of the notes allows the scent to transition across different times of day and seasons. The brand noted that the lighter tea and fruit top notes make it suitable for morning wear, while the deeper musky base makes it an option for the evening as temperatures cool.
Kayali indicated that Freedom Musk Matcha | 45 can be worn on its own or layered with woody or amber perfumes to emphasize its warmer notes. The fragrance is available at Sephora in 10 ml, 50 ml, and 100 ml bottle formats.
