Jared Leto Loses Movie Role Amid Sexual Assault Claims

Jared Leto has lost his role in director Barry Levinson's political thriller Assassination amid new allegations of sexual assault, sources close to the production told Page Six.

According to Page Six, the actor actively discussed participating in the project in 2025 and nearly finalized a deal for the role. One insider described his involvement as an almost done deal, noting that Leto was interested in the work and spoke with the director about the character multiple times.

However, the filmmakers ultimately decided against hiring the actor. Sources stated that the project team was aware of the allegations against Leto and had discussed the situation before negotiations even began.

Production Decisions and Allegations

One source told Page Six that the decision to end cooperation came after the number of sexual misconduct allegations became impossible to ignore. Another source noted that the failure of the 2025 science-fiction film Tron: Ares might have influenced the decision, though they suggested it may have served as a formal pretext following an Air Mail article in which nine women accused Leto of assault.

The film Assassination tells the true story of journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, who died under mysterious circumstances while investigating the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy.
