The aircraft was operating a scheduled service from Talakan to Irkutsk when the technical failure occurred during the flight. Despite the problem with the right power plant, the flight crew managed to touch down safely at the destination airport.

The East Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office announced the incident in an official statement on its Telegram channel. Officials reported that there were no casualties among those on board and no damage occurred on the airfield during the landing.

Transport safety investigation

Transport authorities said that an official inspection has been opened into the circumstances of the flight. In Russia, transport prosecutor offices oversee civil aviation compliance, examining aircraft maintenance records, airline procedures, and technical logs whenever a mechanical failure occurs.

The journey originated at Talakan Airport, a remote air hub located in the Sakha Republic in Eastern Siberia. The airfield was built largely to transport personnel and equipment to and from the region's vast oil and natural gas fields, connecting workers to major Siberian cities.

The aircraft landed at Irkutsk International Airport, a major transport hub situated near Lake Baikal in southeastern Siberia. Irkutsk serves as the home base for IrAero, an airline that operates scheduled passenger flights, cargo operations, and charter routes across regional Russia.

Recent engine incidents

The Siberian emergency follows another recent engine issue aboard a passenger aircraft. In Australia, an engine on a Qantas passenger jet burst into flames while attempting to take off from Karratha Airport.

Terrified travelers on that flight captured video footage showing flames shooting out from under the wing of the Airbus A320-232 before the flight was aborted.

Investigators in Irkutsk are continuing their examination of the IrAero aircraft to establish the root cause of the right engine defect and determine whether safety regulations were fully observed.
