The husband of former Indiana schoolteacher Brittany Fortinberry has finalized their divorce following her arrest on dozens of sexual abuse charges involving teenagers, according to a report by the New York Post.
The divorce process lasted more than a year after her husband filed for legal separation in the wake of her detention. Under the finalized settlement, Fortinberry's former spouse gained sole legal custody of their child and received full ownership of both family vehicles. The former couple sold their marital home and divided the sale proceeds.

Deciding sole custody and assets
Divorce settlements in family courts routinely address child custody, parental rights, and equitable property division following the dissolution of a marriage. Under standard family law principles in the United States, judges evaluate parental fitness and child welfare when awarding sole physical and legal guardianship to one parent during legal disputes.
Fortinberry, aged 31, was detained by law enforcement in December 2024 after several teenagers accused her of sexual assault. According to statements provided to investigators, she routinely bought the teenagers narcotics and alcohol, offered them expensive gifts, and sent them intimate photographs and videos.
Allegations and criminal investigation
The criminal case against Fortinberry widened when a personal friend of the teacher became suspicious upon hearing about the initial allegations and questioned her own son. The teenager confessed that he had also been a victim, reporting that he and two friends had gone to Fortinberry's home for an overnight stay with parental permission.
The teenager stated that once inside the house, Fortinberry initiated an orgy with the three schoolboys and compelled them to wear masks modeled after the horror movie Scream during sexual acts. The Scream film series, which debuted in cinema during the 1990s, is famous for its slasher aesthetic and iconic Ghostface mask, a staple of modern pop culture and Halloween costuming.
Investigators believe that Fortinberry seduced at least 10 teenagers overall. On September 25, authorities confirmed that another student provided formal testimony against Fortinberry, alleging that she gave him drugs and engaged in sex with him. Following the disclosure of these additional facts, the total number of charges against Fortinberry rose to 47.

The legal action in Indiana follows other recent criminal convictions of educators across the country. In New York State, a schoolteacher was previously sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of seducing a 16-year-old student who suffered from schizophrenia and producing pornographic media involving the teenager.
