How Often Should You Wash Your Sheets to Keep Dust Mites Away

Washing bed sheets once a week is the frequency home hygiene experts recommend to control dust mites, according to specialists who warn that bedding continues to accumulate moisture, dead skin cells and other residue even during cold months.

La limpieza en dormitorio es muy importante si se busca eliminar los ácaros.

Dust mites live mainly in mattresses, pillows and bedroom textiles. Although they are rarely visible, specialists note they can cause nasal congestion, sneezing, itching and other allergic reactions in sensitive people.

Many people assume that lower winter temperatures reduce night sweating enough to justify less frequent washing. Experts counter that the body still releases moisture constantly during sleep, and that heavy blankets combined with poor bedroom ventilation create conditions favorable to mite growth.

How to reduce mites further

Specialists advise washing bedding in hot water where the fabric allows, and making sure everything is completely dry before use. They also recommend airing out the bedroom daily, cleaning pillowcases and blankets regularly, and vacuuming the mattress periodically.

Another tip experts highlight is to avoid making the bed immediately after getting up, allowing moisture that built up overnight to evaporate. Keeping the bedroom consistently clean and maintaining pillows and mattress covers in good condition helps reduce allergen exposure, they say.
