Major pharmacies will be paid to detect signs of cancer to catch more tumors early and relieve pressure on primary care doctors.
They can refer clients directly to specialists for screenings and checkups by the NHS without having to consult a family doctor first.
We hope the program will save lives so that people can seek treatment by identifying symptoms that they may not be aware of as signs of cancer. Starting this month, circulating “liver trucks” will also offer on-site screenings in city centers for those at highest risk of developing liver cancer.
NHS England’s managing director, Amanda Pritchard, will outline the plans at the NHS Confed Expo conference in Liverpool today.
The plan will save lives by identifying symptoms that people didn’t know could be signs of cancer and having them see a specialist first.
The NHS is committed to increasing the percentage of cancers detected early from two to three, increasing survival and facilitating treatment.
It came after it was announced that pharmacies and nurses would be authorized to issue sick reports from 1 July.
The law will be changed so patients will no longer have to see their GP for layoffs, freeing up millions of doctor’s appointments.
