Many men who want to last longer in bed try elixirs, supplements and pseudoscientific techniques such as masturbation before sex.
But one study suggests that a short burst of regular exercise is very effective in treating premature ejaculation.
Researchers have found that just 30 minutes of running five days a week can increase time to climax by up to eight minutes.
Exercise can treat premature ejaculation by strengthening the muscles around the genitals that help with erections and ejaculations, scientists say.
Previous research has shown that yoga can also increase men’s stamina in the bedroom.

DR Lee Smith, a public health expert at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK, who led the latest study, said: “There is clear evidence that exercise, including walking and pelvic floor contractions, shows promise in several studies.
“Since drugs often have side effects, it appears that the best medicine to prevent premature ejaculation may be exercise, and that possibility requires larger studies and further research.”
The paper was a meta-analysis of 54 studies involving a total of 3,500 men.
Premature ejaculation is when someone ejaculates much earlier than desired, usually within two minutes of entering their partner.
Men stay in bed for about seven minutes on average.
Treatments include the drug dapoxetine, which is not yet approved in the United States. It works by inhibiting the release of feel-good hormones that cause ejaculation.

Up to a third of men don’t last as long during sex as they or their partner would like, which can lead to low self-esteem and anxiety.
Other off-label medications include local anesthetics and medications commonly prescribed to treat depression.
In the study, researchers searched the medical literature for studies on the treatment of premature ejaculation.
They identified 54 studies, most of which (19) were completed in Europe.
The article then included a narrative summary of the main articles and emphasized that exercise can be as effective as medication for premature ejaculation.
A 2017 study recruited 105 men around the age of 28 and with premature ejaculation.
Of these, a third received dapoxetine, while a third did moderate exercise – running five times a week for 30 minutes – and a third did little exercise.
After a month, there was an improvement in both the group that took the drug and the group that practiced sports. There was no significant difference between them, suggesting that exercise was equally effective.
They also highlighted a separate 2014 study of 78 men, about 41 years old, who had premature ejaculation.
They were all asked to do pelvic floor exercises three times a day for a month to treat the condition.
The results showed that more than half (55 percent) cured their premature ejaculation in that time.
Their time to ejaculate after entering a partner also increased from two to ten minutes.
The study concludes: “Premature ejaculation has been treated using a variety of non-pharmacological approaches (eg, behavioral and surgical approaches) that have been shown to be effective in relatively small randomized clinical trials.
“Large randomized controlled trials are urgently needed to further guide clinicians in choosing the best option for different patient populations.”
The study was published in the journal Trends in Urology and Men’s Health.
