Hummus, here’s a snack that goes with everything and lets you combine it with all the ingredients and/or meals that come your way. Knowing that Mercadona hummus is one of the richest (and cheapest) hummuses on the market, today we recommend a trip to the Middle East without leaving home. This recipe teaches us how to make homemade chickpea hummus easier, tastier and faster.
Although today there are countless varieties such as lentil, beetroot or pesto hummus, this traditional recipe and original, we find it unbeatable. The key (to success) is in its texture: it will be very easy to achieve with a powerful robot, but we can always prepare it with an arm blender.

To start, we’re going to wash the chickpeas well after removing the canning liquid. Strain and place in the food processor glass. Add the peeled garlic clove (TO DECEIVE: it will be softer if we remove the seeds), sesame, cumin, salt, lemon juice and water.

We will crush the entire mixture (just before adding the extra virgin olive oil) until we get a semi-homogeneous mass. When we add it, we will continue to whisk the mixture until we get a creamy mixture. If we add some natural yoghurt, we add much more cream to the final mix. Making hummus this way is available in many Lebanese restaurants, but it’s an optional step.

We can adjust the thickness point by adding a little more water and/or oil (the consistency of hummus is individual, so we can keep testing until we get what we’re looking for). Add some extra virgin olive oil, assorted seeds and sweet paprika when serving.

Homemade hummus with chickpeas to accompany
Tradition states that the best way to accompany this hummus is lightly toasted and warm pita bread. But over time, new ways to accompany it have emerged, such as anchovies (a very healthy option).

But hummus can accompany a delicious avocado toast. Some people prefer to serve it with chopped olives or deep-fried roasted chickpeas – it’s up to everyone’s taste.
