Guerlain launches new version of L'Heure Bleue fragrance

French luxury house Guerlain has launched a new version of its historic fragrance L'Heure Bleue in Paris. Reinterpreted by Guerlain Director of Perfume Creation Delphine Jelk, the updated composition pays tribute to the original 1912 scent while introducing an exclusive iris extract developed over three years and a gradient glass bottle design.

Founded in Paris in 1828, Guerlain is one of the world's oldest fragrance houses. Master perfumer Jacques Guerlain created the original L'Heure Bleue in 1912 after walking across the Pont-Neuf, the oldest standing bridge across the Seine River in Paris. As he watched the evening sky shift from day into night, a deep blue light covered the city. That brief moment between sunset and twilight, known in French as the blue hour, inspired the scent that became permanently associated with the atmosphere of dusk in the French capital.

More than a century after its initial debut, Guerlain has returned to that founding inspiration. Jelk designed the new release to capture the specific sensory feeling of the Parisian twilight sky through a carefully structured fragrance profile.

Composition and exclusive iris extract

The new L'Heure Bleue opens with top notes based on an ozonic accord, giving the perfume a clean and fresh initial sensation. At its heart, iris meets orange blossom to create a bright, soft, and velvety floral combination.

The scent finishes with base notes of vanilla and Ambroxan, a synthetic aromatic compound widely used in modern perfumery to provide depth and amber-like warmth. Together, these ingredients create a long-lasting fragrance with a distinct presence and trail.

Iris stands at the center of the updated creation. Guerlain spent three years developing a new iris extract that is entirely exclusive to the house. The three-year development process formed a major portion of the creative effort behind the new L'Heure Bleue, aiming to highlight the unique characteristics of iris within the overall composition.

Refillable bottle and beauty universe

The updated perfume comes in the house's signature inverted heart-shaped bottle, a silhouette first created in 1912. For the new version, the glass features a color gradient of blue shades inspired by the shifting hues of the sky during the blue hour.

Guerlain is offering the fragrance in 30 ml, 50 ml, and 100 ml bottle sizes, alongside a separate 200 ml refill container. The house created the refillable format for long-term use, enabling buyers to keep the signature bottle as a permanent item in their collection.

The fragrance release is accompanied by a broader beauty line. The collection includes a matching scented hand and body soap, alongside three limited-edition Rouge G lipstick jewel cases named Bleu Iconique, Bleu Rêverie, and Bleu Astral.

Users can pair the three limited-edition cases with any of the 48 satin and velvet matte lipstick shades in Guerlain's Rouge G makeup collection, connecting fragrance directly with color. The new launch preserves the central identity of L'Heure Bleue, continuing a legacy defined by Paris, iris, vanilla, and classic French perfumery more than a century after its debut.
