Prime Video's God of War television adaptation is moving forward with several major casting changes. After it recently emerged that actor Ryan Hurst would no longer play Kratos because of an injury suffered during filming, a new report indicates that season two will also bring in new actors for two other lead characters.
According to MP1st, Amazon has posted new casting calls seeking actors to play older versions of Atreus and Thrud for the show's second season. The character descriptions suggest the production will adapt events from God of War: Ragnarok, in which several years have passed since the story told in God of War (2018). That time jump would explain the need for older actors to portray how both characters have grown.
Search for new Atreus and Thrud
For Atreus, the casting call describes a young man who, after learning the truth about his identity during season one, sets out on a new path to understand his destiny. The character is described as brave, empathetic and highly curious, though also vulnerable because of how much he trusts others. The actor will also need to perform combat scenes, particularly with a bow.
Thrud will also have a significant role in the new season. Amazon describes her as an intelligent, self-assured young woman with a sarcastic streak, whose difficult relationship with her parents contrasts with the strong bond she shares with her grandfather, the king. As with Atreus, the role requires experience with action sequences.
These changes appear to be part of the production's original plan rather than a result of Hurst's departure, since the time jump is set to occur in season two, while season one still has to resume filming once a replacement for Kratos is found. Kratos is also set to return in a new game.
