Gloria Camila Faces Racist Insults on Social Media

The show described a wave of offensive and racist comments of a discriminatory nature that has turned the couple into victims of online harassment. Aramendi condemned the attacks as completely unacceptable.

The racist insults

Some of the messages singled out García and Camila with slurs referring to their backgrounds, including derogatory slang mocking their working-class image and comments describing the couple as a gypsy and a Black woman. The messages appeared on the pair's public profiles while they were on holiday, mixing insults with references to their origins as well as to their work in television and music, depending on which of them was being targeted.

Gloria Camila responds

Camila did not stay silent. She interrupted her summer break to stress that she is proud of her Colombian roots, saying that if the person insulting her knew, they would understand that being called "negra" was a compliment to her, since some people pay to have that skin tone and she was lucky to be born with it. She said she was Colombian, proud of her roots and her skin, and that what truly was not flattering was racism.

Camila also commented on recent events in Ceuta, where tens of thousands of Moroccans entered the Spanish autonomous city, calling for more controlled immigration in Spain, a topic that has divided opinion. One social media user said they felt sorry that an immigrant who had been taken in by wealthy people would be racist. Camila answered that being adopted did not mean she had to stay silent on certain issues, that she came to Spain legally and holds Spanish nationality, and that using her origin to discredit her was prejudice disguised as moral superiority.
