Gachiakuta has confirmed its second season is in production, releasing a first video trailer to mark the announcement. Studio Bones, which handled the first season, is returning for the follow-up.
The trailer runs just 30 seconds but delivers the dark, frenetic energy the series is known for. The anime holds a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Crunchyroll.
For newcomers, the first season runs 24 episodes of roughly 24 minutes each, making it possible to catch up over a few weekends.
What the show is about
Gachiakuta is set in a divided world where an aristocracy lives in a floating city above a bottomless pit called The Pit, where everything discarded from above ends up. The protagonist, Rudo, is a young man from the slums who scavenges through trash. His life is upended when he is falsely accused of a crime and thrown into The Pit as punishment.
Rudo survives the fall and discovers a terrifying underworld where centuries of accumulated garbage has transformed into monsters. There he awakens the ability to channel his soul into objects he values, turning them into lethal weapons. Driven by a desire for revenge and a determination to return to the surface and expose the truth, Rudo joins a group of fighters known as The Cleaners.
